Grind&Polish is the refinishing process, most typically performed on older slabs, which abrades the concrete surface with diamond tooling, trasforming it into a smooth, hard and reflective floor. Because of the large variety of concrete mixes, a number of different interchangeable diamond plucks and pads has been engineered to perform the different steps of the work.
The installation is divided in three phases, grinding, honing and polishing. During these phases we can repair dents and cracks, fill control joints, add color to the surface and strengthen the slab. Once the final polishing pass is done, a clear sealer is applied. Our sealer is a penetrating water based clear liquid, engineered to penetrate the densest surface. Once the sealer is completely dry it can be burnished with high speed burnisher and diamond encrusted pads. The friction generates heat, which in turns chemically activates the sealer and forms an extremely hard and resilient surface, somehow similar to a glaze.
It must be considered that the diamond polishing process does not hide the necessary repairs and any existing defect in the slab. For this reason on old slabs this finish achieves what in the trade is called “industrial look”. In many situations, like on high-traffic commercial floors, the advantages and perks of a diamond polished surface are more significant than having a few repairs showing in the final floor.
